The parallels between Iran and the United States in both statistical data and in racist attitudes towards minorities is strikingly obvious to *anyone* willing to see the data for themselves – which, too often, does not include those who most *need* to see it, Persians and Whites!
“Iran’s minorities are caught in a vicious cycle of repression,” says Mark Lattimer, MRG’s Executive Director. “They suffer disproportionately high rates of arbitrary arrest and imprisonment. Then when they protest, they become specific targets.”
Persians are 61 percent of Iran’s population, just like Whites are 61.6 percent of the USA’s population. Azerbaijani are the next largest at 16 percent in Iran, just like Hispanic/Latino are next largest at 18.7 percent in the USA. The Kurdish people, the majority population in Iran’s prisons, are only 10 percent of Iran’s population, just like Blacks (African Americans and “Native Americans”/Indigenous), the majority population in USA prisons, are only 13.5 percent of the USA’s population. In both Iran and the USA, the Jewish people are way less than 1/2 a percent of the population.
Here are some of the public statements given by Ali Younesi, former head of Iranian intelligence and currently an Adviser to the President of Iran for the affairs of ethnic minorities:

Note how the Kurdish and Jewish peoples don’t make the Persian “white” list in Iran, in any kind of way, shape, or form. Why is this? Sound just like the words of many Republicans and Democrats in the United States of “America”! Seriously, does it not?!
The Islamic regime of Iran (a Persian set of families) has it’s parallel, too, in the USA – in the form of Donald J Trump and Gang. The extreme Jewish minority still trapped in Iran are witnesses, but dare *not* protest or express the Iranian atrocities, for fear of genocide – of becoming the dead scapegoat for all this unrest between the Kurdish people and the Islamic regime of Iran! Though it is not much more, by comparison, at least USA’s prison system grants its racially targeted some minor steps towards indelible human rights! In the Middle Eastern World, the same cannot be said in Islam occupied Iran, where the Kurdish people, mostly, and Persian people, additionally, suffer the worst fates imaginable for those marked for “prison”! Citizens of the USA, this is what your more conservative mean by “lock her up.” Do you care to read your future, if they get their fundamentalist Christian way? … Leaders like Mahmoud Abbass and Vladimir Putin court Iran’s Islamist occupiers like they are a virgin ready to be wed *for a reason*, folks!

Iran’s Evin Prison is notorious in the Middle East, and around the world for those who follow political prisoner abuses. I’ve been posting about Evin for years, like how it’s nicknamed Evin University because it imprisons so many artists, intellectuals, and dissidents.
And how the majority of its political prisoners are Kurdish, even though Kurds are only 10% of the Iranian population.
If you want to learn more about Evin, the government torture of environmental activist Niloufar Bayani is a good place to start googling. She was arrested alongside eight other environmentalists from the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation after they set up cameras to observe the critically endangered Asiatic cheetah, and convicted of “espionage” behind closed doors without a lawyer and sentenced to ten years in prison.
Bayani’s case became public when the letters she wrote to Ayatollah Khamenei from Evin Prison documenting her sexual and psychological abuse were published. Kavous Seyed-Emami, co-founder of the Wildlife Heritage Foundation, was found dead in his cell two days later. The Regime, of course, denies Bayani’s allegations and claims Seyed-Emami committed suicide.
That’s not necessarily why Evin is infamous, though. It’s more so for its barbaric torture, murder, and secret executions without trial.
But it’s not just Evin’s secret executions. After all, even Iran’s public executions are horrific, and I do mean public, since it hangs people from cranes in crowds. And being hanged from a crane is a particularly gruesome way to die. When one is hung from the traditional gallows, the condemned’s neck often breaks as they fall, typically causing near-instant death. But with a crane, they are slowly lifted from the ground by their neck and left to dangle in the noose, and it can take more than 20 minutes to die.
Other gruesome stats:
–The death penalty applies to children at the age of maturity, which is 9-years-old for girls and 15-years-old for boys
–From 2018 to 2019, Iran sentenced 90 children to death and executed 12
–Worldwide, Iran is second only to China in the number of people it puts to death
–In 2012, Iran convicted a 60-year-old Jewish woman of “anti-regime activity” and violating “Islamic rules of the Islamic Revolution.” She was sentenced to death for creating an underground railroad to help women fleeing abusive marriages. She applied for asylum in Holland, but was denied. Her daughter had already been sentenced to jail for her involvement in a documentary about the struggle for democracy in Iran.
–In September 2022, shortly before the current protests started, Iran sentenced 24-year-old gay rights activist Elham Chubdar to death by hanging for “spreading corruption on earth by promoting homosexuality”
–As well as 31-year-old gay rights acrivist Zahra Sediqi Hamadani. Zahra was arrested when she tried to seek asylum in Turkey, and was held in solitary confinement where she was denied a lawyer and sexually abused. She was also condemned to hanging for “spreading corruption on earth by promoting homosexuality.”
At Evin, there are life size portraits of Ayatollah Khomeini hanging on the walls, alongside banners proclaiming, “Allah preserve Khomeini’s revolution!” The loudspeakers blast Qur’anic recitation. But if the walls of Evin Prison could testify to what they had witnessed firsthand, Allah’s heart would shatter into a million pieces.
And Kurds at Evin are often beaten and tortured to death more often than they’re executed. Although the executions without trial are frequent enough; their deaths are predetermined by Ettela’at (Savak: Sazeman-e Ettela’at va Amniyat-e Keshvar)–Iran’s feared secret police.
Chador is compulsory for women to wear if they want to visit an imprisoned loved one. They aren’t allowed to speak Kurdish in prison. So when families visit, sometimes not knowing the Persian language, they aren’t allowed to speak. Mothers and fathers are not allowed to ask their children–who are dragged out by guards limping, their bodies shaking with tremors from electrocution and floggings, and their faces sallow and covered in bruises with bloodshot eyes and broken jaws that slur when they try to speak– “Are you all right, my daughter? Do you need anything, my son?” They can only sit and look at one another, trying to stifle their sobs, their hands on their hearts.
And since the Kurdish language, as well as translators, are also prohibited in Iranian courtrooms, Kurdish families often don’t even know the sentence of their loved ones.
Only allowing the Persian language to be spoken in Iran is called Persian supremacy. It is one of many abuses aimed at ethnically cleansing the Kurds of their indigenous identity.
Families are usually only allowed to visit once a month, and outside of Evin wait gangs of Basijis–religious paramilitary volunteers with long beards–to harass Kurds visiting their prisoners of conscience. The Basijis will call the Kurds filthy animals, infidels, and whores. They spit on them, dump water on them, and push them. Every once in a while, a foreign journalist will try to film it, but they’re usually harassed, too.
The Basijis have also been at the forefront of violent Regime repression of any democratic demonstrations for decades; and Reuters is reporting that Basijis are being deployed to Kurdish areas and videos show them attacking Kurdish protestors along with riot police.
In videos that went viral today, a Basij was filmed firing guns into the air and forcing a woman into his car in Gohardasht (northern Iran). It’s absolutely heart wrenching, bone crushing to say, but I don’t think we can expect her to be returned alive–if she’s returned at all.
Also today, the Persian Islamist Regime blocked roads to Evin prison and witnesses report hearing at least three strong explosions. Footage of the blaze is being circulated online, and shots can be heard ringing out as plumes of smoke engulf the sky amid the sound of an alarm. Then the government blocked internet access to the area. But riot police were still seen riding on motorbikes towards the prison.
A Regime official is reporting on state-owned media that the prisoners set fire to a warehouse, but the “rioters” were separated from the other prisoners, and the “situation is completely under control.” So obviously very trustworthy information. But since at least 40 journalists have been arrested since the protests started, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, there isn’t enough credible reporting to contradict Persian Islamist Regime propaganda.
Elsewhere it’s being suggested on the internet that Iran sent home prison guards and set Ward 7 & 8 on fire, leaving the young political prisoners to burn to death. But because internet rumors are rarely verified, I wouldn’t say that this is necessarily trustworthy information, either. My best guess is that there was indeed a prisoner protest, which the Regime violently crushed.
