“The real democratic deficit,” Green continued, “can be found in the past 30 years of judicial supremacy, whereby the court may ‘override’ the Israeli parliament and has final say on any matter it chooses, despite no actual constitutional anchor enabling such authority.”
Professor Moshe Koppel, chairman of the Kohelet Policy Forum, agreed that there should be greater limits on the Supreme Court’s authority. He argued that Israel’s Supreme Court has powers, such as the ability to vote on appointing judges, that few other courts around the world have.
But others like Amir Fuchs, senior researcher at Israel Democracy Institute, argued that the reforms would unbalance Israel’s sensitive system, which has just a few checks in place.
“[Israeli checks and balances] are weak as it is, we don’t have bicameral parliament,” he told the Jerusalem Post. “The checks and balances that we have on the power of the central regime are very weak.”
Yaniv Roznai, co-director of the Rubenstein Center for Constitutional Challenges at Reichman University, agreed that passing the reform “would result in a government that has a blank check to do what it wants…. You have no check whatsoever of the power of the coalition.” ”

Why Namor Says Imperius Rex And What It Means
“Keeping the original comics in mind, it’s rather fitting that there’s no explanation for the MCU Namor’s catchphrase “Imperius Rex” either. In fact, Namor’s “Imperius Rex” battle cry makes even less sense for the on-screen Sub-Mariner considering he rules over the Mesoamerican-inspired underwater Talokan rather than Atlantis and its Greco-Roman origins. In truth, it’s just a fun reference meant to honor the character’s comic roots, proving a dedication to representing the character well even if his kingdom of Talokan is different from the MCU…
While not having a direct translation, Namor’s catchphrase “Imperius Rex” is meant to sound intimidating while fitting with his name, originally conceived by Marvel Comics writer Bill Everett who simply reversed the spelling of “Roman.” That being said, there was one instance in Marvel Comics where Thor finally asked Namor what the catchphrase means while they were locked in combat in 2018’s Thor #1. Providing a less-than-serious reply, Namor said that “It means I’m going to feed your sorry Asgardian hide to the biggest sharks I can find!” While there’s never really been an exact explanation as to what Namor’s iconic battle cry truly means, it does sound pretty cool (which is ultimately the point).”
One more thought on a *movie*: In response to the anger – by, apparently, many – over Black Panther Wakanda Forever being an “anti-Indigenous” “exploitation” film full of tropes(?!)… Perhaps you should read the comics, first, before making yourself look like a fool publicly! … The Mayans were a mighty meso-“American” civilization. Yet, for all their great achievements, Mayan civilization collapsed in the 9th century CE. Only 6 million South “Americans” (pay attention ” “!) speak one of the six descendant languages from the Mayan civilization. Now, how many of these Mayan descendant languages has *ever* been so prominently represented in a Western European film?! … “Don’t worry, I’ll wait.” … How many signs from the Mayan sign language has *ever* been so prominently represented in a Western European film?!
Is it possible that the reason many people – apparently – who are upset with Black Panther Wakanda Forever don’t realize that the European Christian colonization – language, culture, and religion – has already permanently altered the continents of both north and south “America”? To where only 14 million Indigenous peoples speak some kind of, at least, an Indigenous language? (15.2 Jews worldwide can relate with our Canaanite Hebrew still spoken language!) Let’s put this into a clearer perspective: Talokan is the Atlantean Colonizer nation (Greco-Roman myth!), just redressed for a more Indigenous regional look (it was not meant to be *historical*, this film, but entertaining and educational and emotionally empathic!).
I hate to be the one who tells you folks (yes, the worldwide “geek” in me!) that neither Wakanda nor Talokan actually exists in this world! Except in our storytelling! And storytelling is the heart of *being* an Indigenous People *anywhere* upon this colonized planet Earth. Not every tribe of Indigenous Peoples has been benevolent and less than willing to assimilate another for survival, but all Indigenous tribes seek to survive the historic Arab-European Colonizers of all Indigenous Peoples’ lands! *The point of this movie about Wakanda and Talokan (minus the blatant Atlantean connection).* And, in “the real world,” among Indigenous nations who are strong enough to take on the Colonizer nations of this world, *alliances* are a good thing!!!
Some comic backstory:
“The conflict in Wakanda Forever isn’t new to the comic world, as war between Wakanda and Atlantis has been depicted many times before. However, why was Atlantis changed to Talokan for the MCU? In general, the Black Panther movies have deviated from their comic book origins from time to time, and it looks like the character Namor has been changed from his graphic novel counterpart quite a bit. Studios took a different approach in designing Atlantis/Talokan, focusing in on the culture and history of Mesoamerica. When the question arose as to whether to make the Black Panther city be inspired by a real culture versus a Greek myth like that of Eternals, the MCU chose the former. Talokan pops up in Mesoamerican manuscripts and is described as a “paradise.” Mesoamerican beliefs dictated that when someone dies from lightning or drowning, they rest in the Aztec paradise known as Tlālōcān.”*
In the film, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, the lead anti-hero, Namor, the K’uk’ulkan, listens to Namora’s question: “I looked forward to fighting in battle alongside you my entire life. The thought of you kneeling to the Wakandans. Is Talokan to serve under their rule now?”
Namor, the king of the Atlanteans (Talokan), gives his response: “The black panther is the most powerful person in the most powerful nation on the surface. But she has no allies. Now she has empathy for the people of Talokan. With this alliance, Talokan will be stronger than ever.”
