Easily verifiable historical facts really do matter, folks! The Jewish people are the last surviving tribe of the peoples of Canaan. To this very day, we Jews still speak our Canaanite Hebrew as a living Indigenous People’s language. Colonial Arabic is NOT a Canaanite nor Aramaic language! Where is the line between legitimate criticism of Israel and antisemitism?
When I hear the charge that Jews are weaponizing antisemitism, it always feels to me in itself like a kind of hostility toward Jews. If you’re going to obsessively focus on criticizing an historically marginalized and persecuted minority who have been grossly mistreated for centuries, and you have little good or loving to say about them, that is, if you don’t try to build up trust with that community, don’t be surprised if your criticism and motives are met with skepticism in that community. If the critic rarely shows any sympathy for what the Jews have been through, and I don’t mean just the Holocaust but our treatment for centuries as dhimmis, as 3rd class subjects under Middle East theocracies, wholesale ethnic cleansing from the Arab World, if the critic rarely mentions these painful experiences, and rarely has any criticism for Israel’s illiberal theocratic enemies, then yes, the criticism is likely going to be received with suspicion within much of our community.
We remember that antisemites have always cherry-picked unflattering true stories about some Jews and then called it legitimate criticism, all in order to draw the conclusion or imply that most Jews are an immoral people. Similarly today, many critics completely lie about Israel by telling true but unrepresentative stories in order to portray the country as a whole as malevolent, as a pariah nation. These critics omit critical, relevant facts and magnify marginal phenomena to present a highly non-representative distorted picture.
In Sum: Two-fold criteria for where to draw the line between legitimate criticism of Israel and antisemitism:
1. Look to see whether the critic has built up trust within the Jewish community, has shown that he’s listened to what we’ve been actually saying, and he’s not omitting relevant facts regarding Israeli history and the behavior of its enemies.
2. Look to see whether the stories he’s telling about Israel are statistically significant about the country or are they just marginal phenomena that he’s inflating to make the whole country look bad.
If this person hasn’t done those two things and his only friends are anti-Israel critics, and if he’s solely focused on telling anecdotal stories that defame Israel, even if those are individually true but false in a general sense, I don’t think the onus is on us to take on faith that he’s a good person with wholesome motives toward the Jewish people, given all we’ve been through, given all the antisemitic violence that is still present. I, in fact, don’t think such faith is prudent or practical with regard to our collective well-being. I therefore encourage Jews to trust their instincts, their inner alarm systems. You don’t have to bluntly call someone an antisemite in conversation but privately being skeptical of their claims and motives is all right. I think it might even save your life.”
Yes, but No! Every time, we Jews need to socially/publicly call out antisemitism, no matter how benevolent a Christian or Muslim is overall – every time! Those not fully indoctrinated need to see just how antisemitic racist this world really is. Why? Because, even benevolent Christian/Muslim allies fail to realize just how much social privilege they enjoy systemically, that often does not exist for Jews. And they fail to realize that antisemitism was created by Christians and adopted by Muslims to *ensure* that Jews know our minority place always – and this structural antisemitism is in everyone that embraces these Colonial “faith” religions.
This is why I have yet to meet a Christian nor Muslim that does reveal antisemitism after a few personal questions presented – that causes said to *have to* actually self-reflect. Anti-Semitism is the first Colonial racism, that evolved into skin-color racism. And Jews are the first Indigenous People to be colonized, marginalized, demonized, historically erased, turned into a false equivalency “religion,” all so that Colonial Christianity and Colonial Islam (now Colonial Marxism, too) flourishes at the expense of all non-/anti-Colonials.
Anyone who speaks in terms of Colonial “faith” religions needs to be and must be treated warily by the Jewish people – for our own survival and the survival of other Indigenous Peoples! Since the era of that anti-Semitic and anti-Asian troglodyte, Al ”Burger King” Sharpton, the leaders of the inner-city black community, have targeted hard-working Asian store and restaurant-owners in the inner city. They do this out of poor hatred and jealousy. Not understanding how a group, uneducated and poor, can come to America and, within a generation, have their children going to the best universities in America. It’s very simple. The Asians have a work ethic that exceeds that of the contemporary American. They are willing to open small groceries, etc in crime-ridden neighborhoods and work 18 hours a day to eke out a living. They also make sure their kids get educated and study hard, all while they help Mom and Dad in the business.
This brave entrepreneurship, in many cases, provides the only retail food business in the neighborhood, as many of the super-market chains are reluctant to operate there. Instead of being grateful for the service, the community is incited to hate and, in some cases, vandalize these stores. The sacking of the Chinese restaurant is just more proof of this racist incitement and behavior. My heart goes out to these hard-working owners who probably have to go out-of-pocket to fix the damage.
