Only Jews face antisemitism both from-without and from-within! It’s the saddest part of having been colonized by the notorious Arab-European Colonial racists and supremacists of this world. Internalized racism, sadly, gets *personal* for me! Because this kind of delegitimization is why Israel is constantly at war *every single day* for the survival of the third of the Jewish land that we have managed to successfully forcibly decolonize! Today, I got angry! … I got angry at an ignorant Jewish antisemite, who dared to delegitimize my lived experience as an Indigenous Jew *and* my family’s personal sacrifice to the Shoah! And, I am ashamed that I am still all worked up emotionally with anger, hours later, from this encounter with a Jew that has *no* Indigenous Judean clue! Afraid of a symbol, and attacking halachic Jews for addressing this symbol of hate online. I really don’t get this internalized racism insanity among so many European colonized Jews! This is leading us back to another Shoah! For kiddush ha’Shem, wake up European colonized Jews! WAKE UP! We MENA Jews are tired of paying the price for your Colonial European granted social privilege to “disagree” and be racist about it towards we MENA Jews.

Fascinating that this post pops up. This Rabbi lives in the same place as the Jew”ish” who assumes the moral right to instruct a MENA Jew and tell us how to behave – what we can and cannot post thoughts upon online! *How many of our children have to die before European colonized Jews realize that you are fighting for our continued Jewish subjugation in this Arab-European colonized world?* Two more MENA Jews were murdered this last weekend – and they were literally familial brothers!!! When we were kids in summer camp (about 40 years ago), every Friday we had an assignment to write home a short letter to our parents. It was pretty pro-forma and always began with “Dear Tatty and Mommy, how are you? I am feeling B”H fine.” B”H of course standing for Baruch HaShem, praise God.
Pinchas Yeshoua Buchinger, one of my classmates, was a funny kid with a quirky sense of humor.
One time he was sick and in bed all week. Friday, when it came time to write home, he wrote “Dear parents, how are you? I’m feeling B”H awful.” When asked why are you saying Baruch HaShem when you are so sick? He said, with a little smirk: you don’t get it, my B”H isn’t an acronym for Baruch HaShem. It’s a different acronym. It stands for Beavunotai Harabim; meaning I feel awful and assume it’s became of my sinfulness.
Funny/cute.
What impressed me, however, was the genius of repurposing of an age old trope. He maintained the conventional acronym, B”H, but used it to mean the exact opposite of what it originally meant.
Following in his footsteps, I’m thinking of doing the same with HY”D, a term usually added to the names of people killed by terorrists or antisemites.
For years now I stopped using it. It expressed the wrong sentiment for me.
Because:
1) God is not in the business of killing people!
2) God didn’t cause the victim’s death, a terrorist did!
3) Nor is it God’s job to avenge the murder of one person by killing another.
For these reasons I started replacing HY”D with something else.
Instead of HaShem Yinkom Damo, I would pray that בלע המות לנצח ומחה ה׳ אלוקים דמעה מעל כל פנים; that the bloodshed may cease and that God may permanently wipe the devastating tears from the face of the grieving widows, parents, siblings and young orphans.
After much reflection in light of what has transpired the last few months I decided to bring back HY”D but to repurpose it. Instead of praying for bloody revenge, my tefila of HY”D is that Hashem Yiten Daas (ה׳ יתן דעת).
There is a way to stop this vicious cycle of murder and mayhem. Unfortunately, we haven’t merited the zechut to find the right leaders to pursue that with passion, tenacity and dedication. So my prayer of HY”D is that all these leaders who have failed us up until now be removed and replaced by people of right mind (da’at) who have the courage, fortitude and intellect to end this bloody quagmire.
Dear Hillel and Yaniv, HY”D, we failed you by not applying ourselves sufficiently to elect leaders who would know what to do in order to spare your precious neshamot. ידינו שפכו דמכם.
Please, God, enough already!
Guide us in the path of electing the people who will genuinely end the bloodshed, and not just react with bombastic declarations which tend to satiate our blood lust but in reality hasn’t accomplished much over all these many years.
And may God’s יד חזקה also cause the seemingly impossible: עושה שלום במרומיו, יעשה שלום עלינו ועל כל ישראל ועל כל יושבי תבל.
