From which ancient Indigenous People did Arabs get the kaffiyeh?
I wear a Sudra! Why? Because, I and every father before me is Indigenous Judean by blood descent. No “Palestinian” *Arab* can make this same claim, regardless their # of generations lived on Judea-Samaria. But, this does not matter for this post, for today we talk about four cornered garments!
The MENA Jewish people have been wearing the Sudra (kaffiyeh, in Arabic) since we became the Indigenous Judean people in the 14th-15th century BCE. But, Arab Muslims who appropriated our Sudra along with our Jewish ancestors and Jewish ancestral myths (after Mohammed usurped Arab ethno-religious identity with his Arabian Colonizer religion, Islam, in the 6th century CE) often take great offense by we Indigenous Judeans, the Jewish people, wearing our Sudra.
Why? Because, it is a sign of *status* to wear one! Especially, if we have tassels on our four cornered garments. And, for Jewish dhimmi (colonized, occupied, and daily humiliated second-class citizens under Arab rule) to wear such a garmet *undermines* Arab Muslim supremacy over their colonized Indigenous Peoples.
So, when you read the trolling hate from Arabs about Jewish appropriation of “our kaffiyeh,” remind them (as I will!) that *they Arabs* who colonized Indigenous Peoples’ lands are the ones who appropriated *our* Indigenous Judean headdress/neckscarf!
And now decolonized for the third time in our Jewish people’s history, it is time for *us* Judeans to revive the casual and sacred wearing of Sudra among all Indigenous Jews throughout *all* the Diasporas. For it’s our original headdress/neckscarf, well before the invention of the Shtreimel!
You will notice that my Sudra has tassals, because it is technically a four cornered garment, and I wear my Sudra more like a neckscarf/tallit (like a lot of modern Jews). This is because I kind of favor my wide brimmed hats for the top of my head! And any four cornered garment with tassals is technically a readily available tallit. Some Jews may disagree, but I have receipts to prove halacha flexibility. Let’s discuss, if you wish!

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” When does the “love” stop?! (Hint, there *is* a limit to this ancient Jewish law!)
As is our Indigenous Judean tradition, we Jews have chanted/listened to Torah. This week was parashat kedoshim – the laws of “sanctification.” IOWs, what is civil-ritually required to be a sanctified people (“moral,” “holy,” “ethical,” etc.). These laws of sanctification are not what universalist Christianity and Islam religion (appropriators of ANE Jewish ancestral writings) would have you believe they are in meaning!
For example, Torah never once says that the Jewish people, the Indigenous People of Judea-Samaria, is required to “love” all people “as yourself.” Just like Torah never once said that the Jewish people, an Indigenous nation, is required to have “one Law code” for citizens and land-squatting non-citizens.
Such false equivalency as this is an Arab Muslim and European Christian *interpretation* of ANE Jewish laws, used to justify how Indigenous Peoples are to submit to the Muslim and Christian occupation of Indigenous Peoples’ lands. The lie that is presented through this universal interpretation, a mistranslation, is this:
“We Arab and European colonial settlers have occupied your land therefore, by your Indigenous laws, you Indigenous people must accept us and love us and treat us as if we are you. IOWs, Indigenous nation sovereignty is now replaced by our Arab and European Colonizers supremacy over the lands of Indigenous Peoples.”
This is NOT what our Jewish ancestral Law Codes (preserved in Torah) teaches, not at all! Vayikra 19 (Leviticus), the Laws that establish “sanctified” living as the Indigenous People of Judea-Samaria, speak only of the Indigenous natives of the land (the Jewish people) and the resident non-indigenous (ger, non-indigenous citizens of our Indigenous Judean nation). People who are not citizens of Israel, but from other nations, are not included in these laws!
With both, native and non-indigenous citizens, these Torah laws demand specific physical/legal behaviors that define national sanctification:
Between Indigenous Judeans, we will not defraud, steal, withhold wages, render unjust judgement, oppress the poor and vulnerable, etc. For we must be socially just with our “neighbor,” our Indigenous brothers and sisters, to ensure our Indigenous Judean nation’s survival. This is how we “love” our neighbor as “yourself.”
Likewise, between Indigenous Judeans and non-Jewish citizens of our Judean nation, Israel, we will not socially oppress non-indigenous citizens, and we will treat non-indigenous citizens among us as if they are native born Judeans (though we and they know that they are not!). For we must be socially just with our “neighbor,” by “loving” non-indigenous citizens as “yourself.”
But, nowhere in Torah does the Indigenous Judean law codes demand that the Jewish people treat non-citizens, whether indigenous or non-indigenous, as “neighbors” under our Indigenous nation’s laws (despite how much anti-Zionist Arabs and Europeans want to claim it says this, especially regarding the millions of Arab non-citizens that are land-squatting on Indigenous Judean land to end/replace Jewish self-sovereignty!).
Modern Israel fulfills Torah law demands with the citizen inhabitants of Judea-Samaria. There are, by choice, 2.5 million non-Judean Israeli citizens – Arabs, Druze, and Europeans – who *as citizens* of Israel are under Torah laws protection, and they are “loved” as “your Indigenous self.” Hence, their devotion to protecting Jewish Zionism, Indigenous sovereignty upon our Jewish ancestral land, though not Jewish themselves!
“Palestinian” Arab freedom begins with education! You non-citizens of Israel within Judea-Samaria are *not* “indigenous” to the land. You non-citizens of Israel do not have “right of return” among an Indigenous People that you are not members of. And, as self-declared (eternal) “refugees,” you are free to return to the nations that your ancestors are from to end your “refugee” status.
The only surviving descendants of the Canāanite people are Indigenous Judeans, the Jewish people of Judea-Samaria. We are the only Indigenous People to keep the Canāanite language, history, laws, myths, pantheon of god names, ethno-religious and civil law land rituals, need to be sovereign upon our ancestral land (Zionism), and Indigenous Judean identity continuously l’dor v’dor (for all generations).
Anyone who “palestined,” who “rolled in” (meaning of “Palestini”/Felishti) to our ancestral lands to occupy it, is *not* the Indigenous Jewish of the land and *never* will be, full stop! But, if you want to be loyal productive citizens of Israel, then apply for citizenship! Land-squatting upon Judea-Samaria is not the path to peace, and is a “tell” on intent.

“The command to love one’s neighbor as oneself is undoubtedly one of the great contributions of Jewish ANE literatures to the ethical development of the two world colonizing religions, European Christianity and Arab Islam – even though they have historically failed to demonstrate such ethics towards Indigenous Peoples, minorities, and the vulnerable of this world!
As to the world itself, the concept of “love your neighbor as yourself” is much older than and more wide spread than “the Hebrew bible.” Self-importance blinds the Jewish people, considering that out of 370 million still surviving Indigenous Peoples in this world, the Jewish people – Indigenous Judeans of Judea-Samaria – are only 15.2 million. We actually are *NOT* being heard by the Arab and European Colonizers of Indigenous Peoples’ lands in this world!
