He said, with a little smirk: you don\u2019t get it, my B\u201dH isn\u2019t an acronym for Baruch HaShem. It\u2019s a different acronym. It stands for Beavunotai Harabim; meaning I feel awful and assume it\u2019s became of my sinfulness.<\/p>\n

Funny\/cute.<\/p>\n

What impressed me, however, was the genius of repurposing of an age old trope. He maintained the conventional acronym, B\u201dH, but used it to mean the exact opposite of what it originally meant.<\/p>\n

Following in his footsteps, I\u2019m thinking of doing the same with HY\u201dD, a term usually added to the names of people killed by terorrists or antisemites.<\/p>\n

For years now I stopped using it. It expressed the wrong sentiment for me.<\/p>\n

Because:<\/p>\n

1) God is not in the business of killing people!<\/p>\n

2) God didn\u2019t cause the victim\u2019s death, a terrorist did!<\/p>\n

3) Nor is it God\u2019s job to avenge the murder of one person by killing another.<\/p>\n

For these reasons I started replacing HY\u201dD with something else.<\/p>\n

Instead of HaShem Yinkom Damo, I would pray that \u05d1\u05dc\u05e2 \u05d4\u05de\u05d5\u05ea \u05dc\u05e0\u05e6\u05d7 \u05d5\u05de\u05d7\u05d4 \u05d4\u05f3 \u05d0\u05dc\u05d5\u05e7\u05d9\u05dd \u05d3\u05de\u05e2\u05d4 \u05de\u05e2\u05dc \u05db\u05dc \u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05dd; that the bloodshed may cease and that God may permanently wipe the devastating tears from the face of the grieving widows, parents, siblings and young orphans.<\/p>\n

After much reflection in light of what has transpired the last few months I decided to bring back HY\u201dD but to repurpose it. Instead of praying for bloody revenge, my tefila of HY\u201dD is that Hashem Yiten Daas (\u05d4\u05f3 \u05d9\u05ea\u05df \u05d3\u05e2\u05ea).<\/p>\n

There is a way to stop this vicious cycle of murder and mayhem. Unfortunately, we haven\u2019t merited the zechut to find the right leaders to pursue that with passion, tenacity and dedication. So my prayer of HY\u201dD is that all these leaders who have failed us up until now be removed and replaced by people of right mind (da\u2019at) who have the courage, fortitude and intellect to end this bloody quagmire.<\/p>\n
